Obituary

Alice Allene (Marshall) Barnes passed away on Thursday October 1, 2026 at 11pm at Altercare in Coshocton, Ohio. Allene was born on August 20, 1933 in Marietta, Ohio to Albert R. Marshall and Belva (Boney) Marshall. She graduated from Manchester High School in 1951 and married H. Ray Barnes on August 15, 1953. They were the parents of three children, Rhonda, Robert, Richard. Allene was a member of McKendree Methodist Church from 1970 until her death. She was an active member in the UMW, taught Sunday School and spent many hours helping out in the kitchen for church events. She was a 50 plus year member of Neelyville Grange and helped run the food stand at the Morgan County Fair. Allene was a charter member of the Neely C.C.L. And a member of the Never Silent Club. Allene worked at the Morgan High School cafeteria over 20 years and was known in the community for her homemade bread and pies. Along with Ray, Allene enjoyed family vacations which often included camping, and in 1969 they took a vacation trip to California. They also visited Yellowstone Park several times, beginning with her and Ray’s honeymoon in 1953. They also attended many of Ray's Army reunions. Allene is survived by her children, Rhonda (Jim)Hopkins of Coshocton Ohio, Robert (Carolyn) Barnes of Pickerington, Ohio and Rick Barnes of Cleveland, Ohio. Also surviving are her brother John (Sherry) Marshall and her former daughter-in-law, Jean Kirkbride all of McConnelsville, Ohio. Her grandchildren include Andrea Hopkins of Chicago, Illinois, Monica (Romeo)Raugei of Brooklyn, New York, Jessica (Andrew) Akers of Coshocton, Ohio, Nicholas Barnes of McConnelsville and Vicky (Kevin) Swiger of Pickerington, Ohio. Her great grandchildren includes Lainey, Lauren, and Evan Akers, Zechiah, Isabella and R.J. Barnes, Julian Raugei, Augusta, Brianna and Carson Swiger. Allene is also survived by many nieces and nephews and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Allene is proceeded in death by her husband Ray, of 60 years, her sisters, Ina Belle Barnes, and Mavis Manning, and several sister-in-law’s and brother-in-law's. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 6, with calling hours from 12 to 2 and services starting at 2 PM at McKendree Church of McConnelsville. Pastor Bracken Foster officiating. Internment will follow at McKendree Cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to McKendree Church. Matheney Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
