Alvin M. Rainer, 85, of Stockport, Ohio, passed away at 8:48 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Joy, Ohio, September 3, 1926, a son of Hiley A. and Lula Mae Williams Rainer. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, a 27 year employee of the Central Ohio Coal Company, a member of the Stockport Church of Christ, Webb Lodge #252 F.&A.M. of Stockport, the McConnelsville American Legion, and United Mine Workers # 1604. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Myrta McGrew Rainer of the home, 5 sons: Tom Staats (Sandy) of Bucyrus, Charles Staats (Pam) of Galion, Roger Rainer (Pam) of Caldwell, Ronald Rainer of Beverly, and Randy Rainer (Tami) of Dexter City; 3 daughters: Judy Baker (Rick) of Sharon, Marie Marquis (Greg) of Stockport, and Karen Largent (Kenny) of Reinersville; several grand, great grand, and great,great grandchildren; 1 daughter-in-law: Donna Rainer of Beverly, and 1 sister: Cleo Gold of Athens. Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, Claude, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and 3 grandsons. Services will be held on Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Evang. Rex McDonald officiating. Burial will be in the Dale Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p. with Masonic Services held at 8:00. Military Service will be observed at the Cemetery.
