Barbara Ellen Smith Ray, 82, of Zanesville formerly of McConnelsville who had resided at the Primrose Retirement Community in Zanesville passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at the Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville.

She was born July 21, 1933 in Malta, Ohio. She was the daughter of Kile Opie and Harriett Ellen Smith. She married Kenton Ray on June 15, 1951. Barbara graduated from M.&M. High School and Ohio University. She taught school for 1 year at Moxahala in Perry County and finished her teaching years at Morgan Local Schools. Barbara was a member of Malta Methodist Church, the Amanda Barker Devin Chapter of D.A.R., Morgan County Republican Womens Club, Morgan Camera Club, Malta Methodist Church Womens Circle, Life Member of ORTA, and Zanesville Retired Teachers.

Barbara and Kenton had three daughters who survive, Brenda (Jim) Bunch of California, Janice (Larry) Chapman of Zanesville, and Karen Ray and Tim McGovern of Florida; also surviving are two granddaughters, Alyssa (Steven) Yancy of Texas and Kayla Chapman of Kentucky, three grandsons, Brian (Missy) Foreman of North Carolina, Clint (Kim) Foreman of McConnelsville and Joshua (Nicole) Aber of Indiana; two step grandchildren, Kim and Jon Bunch of California; four great grandsons, Hunter Foreman, Collin and Caleb Aber, and Max Foreman; step great grandchildren, Adelle and Jack Bunch; and many nieces and nephews; and faithful golden retriever, Foxy.

Barbara always enjoyed her children and grandchildren, she was always willing to volunteer when needed by anyone, and she loved to travel. Barbara wanted to thank Primrose Retirement Community for a loving place to live. She loved the staff and all of the wonderful friends she had there.

In addition to her parents she preceded in death by her husband, Kenton Ray and a grandson.

Friends may call from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 26, 2015 with Pastors Sanford Short and Dave Pennington officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband Kenton in McConnelsville Cemetery.
