Bertha M. Johnson, 64, of Columbus, died on Weds. Feb. 5, 2014 at Doctors Hospital in Columbus. She was born on April 6, 1949 in Athens County near Sharpsburg to the late Dycle E. and Beulah Male Mayle. She retired from the Columbus Police Department after 15 years where she worked as an officer. She attended the Southland Mission Church and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Union. She is survived by a special friend Pablo Santos of Columbus, 1 daughter, Kimberly Walker of Columbus, 2 brothers, Delmar Mayle of McConnelsville and Allen (Debbie) Mayle of Sunbury, 2 sisters, Evelena (Davey) Tabler of Columbus and Ruth Patterson of Columbus, 2 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Tom Johnson, 1 daughter, Kelly and 5 brothers, Henderson, Dean, Eddie, Neil and Watson Mayle. Services will be held on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at 1:00 P.M. at the Mt. Hermon Church near Amesville with Pastor J. R. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 4-8 P.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill and 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
