WOOSTER -- Carl E. Howard, 81, of Wooster, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Chesterhill, the son of Fred and Mabel Bowman Howard, and married Betty Smith in 1951. She survives. Carl was a 1949 graduate of Marion Local Township High School and had been a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for Ohio Oil Gathering Corp. He retired in 1986 after 25 years. He enjoyed golfing and spending winters in Florida. He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Byron Howard of Chesterhill, Peggy Snyder of Mount Vernon and John "JD" Howard of Wooster; grandchildren, Trey (Jessica) Snyder and Hannah Howard; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Sydney Snyder; sisters, Marilyn Howard of Chesterhill, Patricia Howard of Gahanna and Shirley Fleming of Chesterhill; and a brother, John (Beverly) Howard of Chesterhill. Carl was preceded in death by his parents. Local calling hours will be Saturday, April 7 from 6-8 p.m. at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, 216 E. Larwill St., Wooster. Friends may call Monday, April 9 from 6-8 p.m. at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, 7465 Marion St., Chesterhill. Graveside services will be Tuesday, April 10 at 11 a.m. at Chesterhill Cemetery.
