Charles William "Bill" Brown 79, of 3341 N. McGovern Ave., McConnelsville passed away at 3:00 a.m. August 4, 2010 at his home with his family at his side. He was born July 2, 1931 in Malta, Ohio son of the late Clifford Brown and Edna Harris Brown.

He worked at the Central Ohio Coal Co. where he ran the dozer under the Big Muskie Shovel. He was a devoted member and trustee of the Malta United Methodist Church and never happier while serving and working with his church family. He was known as chuggin' Charlie on the M&M football team where he played all four years from 1946 to 1950. He was a member of the American Legion in McConnelsville and the UMW local. He left with the National Guard in 1950 during the Korean War. He loved his family and loved watching his children and grandchildren in all there sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria Primmer Brown; one daughter, Jill (T.J.) Reed of McConnelsville; two sons, Butch (Jane) Brown and Brett (Teresa) Brown both of McConnelsville; ten grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Chuck Brown.

Calling hours will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Malta United Methodist Church in Malta. A lite lunch will be served from 12 noon until 12:45 followed by a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. Saturday at the church with Pastor Bill Bentley officiating. Military rites will be held at the church immediately after the memorial service. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery near Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Malta United Methodist Church or the M&M Emergency Squad, 77 S. 4th Street, McConnelsville, Ohio 43756.
