Charles "Chuck" G. Meranda Jr., 66 of Malta, died on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at his residence. He was born on April 11, 1945 in Moscow, Ohio to the late Charles G. and Dorothy Connor Meranda. He retired as a Senior Chief officer after 28 years from the U.S. Navy where he served in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf Wars. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Post #60/69 of Rotta, Spain, VFW Post #4713 and DAV of Malta, and the American Legion Post # 24 of McConnelsville. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sweeney Meranda of the home, one sister, Carol Jane Owens of Minnesota, one step son, Paul Manwaring of Colwyn Bay Whales, UK, three nephews, Charles "Scott" McDonald, Todd Brown, and Peter Alberts, three nieces, Traci O'Connell, Samantha Alberts, and Tarah Barkhurst, a sister-in-law, Althea (Maurce) Alberts of Long Island, and special friends, Joie and Jean McDonald, John Houser, Gary Wyant, Billy and Pat Hodgeson, Chuck Bosari and Emily Matuzak and Dave Hathaway. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mother-in-law, Susan Sweeney, and a stepson, Carl Manwaring. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September14, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. at the Malta Cemetery with Pastor Barbara Morrison officiating and Veteran services provided by the Morgan County Veteran Association. Friends may call on the family from 10:30-11:30 A.M. on Wednesday the day of the funeral at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville.
