Obituary

      Charles W. Garrett, 80, of Malta, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his home. He was born October 4, 1933, in the home, a son of the late Sidney and Emma Garrett. Charles was a 1952 graduate of York High School. He was a machinist working at what is currently Miba Bearings. He was an Army veteran serving from 1953-1955. He was also a member of Solomon Lutheran Church. Charlie enjoyed being outdoors coon hunting, ginseng hunting and working in his garden. He also enjoyed meeting his buddies at McDonald's for daily coffee and conversation. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Shelba J. Garrett of the home; two sons, Steven W. Garrett of Malta and Vaughn K. (Kim) Garrett of McConnelsville; two daughters, Tina L. (Tony) Bateson of Hackney and Tarua (Steve) McCoy of McConnelsville; seven grandchildren, William J. Hann and Rebecca, Andrea Spears and Broc, Clayton McCoy, Cassie Bateson, Caitlin McCoy, Baylee and Ty Garrett; five great-grandchildren, Flint Spears, Mia Serocko, Charlotte and Sophia Hann, and Brantley Cunningham; one brother, Jim Garrett of McConnelsville; and two sisters, Ruby Shook of Philo and Carma Kalb of McConnelsville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Richardson. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 16, at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 17, at Solomon Lutheran Church with Pastor Galen Finley officiating. Charles will be laid to rest in Dutch Hill Cemetery.
