Charles H. Simmons, age 77, of Chesterhill, Ohio passed away Monday, October 17, 2016 at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville at 10:16 a.m. He was born in Guysville, Ohio on November 14, 1938, a son of the late Burch H. and Myrtle Marshall Simmons. He worked in the Oil Fields as a Driller for Carr Drilling , Chesterhill; He retired from Morgan County Schools where he worked as a custodian, served as a Marion Township Trustee, was a member of the Liberty United Brethren Church near Stockport where he served as Pastor for over twenty years. He was affectionately known as "Old Charlie." He had a passion for growing tomatoes, having some vines that reached 20+ feet. He loved giving them away to everyone. Surviving are 2 sons: Denny (Pam) Simmons of Chesterhill, Donny (Tami) Simmons of Mt. Sterling; 7 grandchildren: Jeremy, Joshua, Jerica, Cory, Tifani, Brady, and Kameron Simmons; 9 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Jessie Goforth of St. Petersburg, FL., Janice Gary of Ocean City , Maryland, Gladys Simmons of Tampa, FL.; a sister-in-law and special friend, Lois Simmons of Chesterhill; several nieces and nephews , and many, many friends. Other than his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Judie Carr Simmons, 1 brother, John, and 2 sisters, Jeannine and Mary. Services will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, 11:00 a.m., at Liberty United Brethren Church, 470 Sheets Road, Stockport, Ohio, 43787, with Pastor David Jarvis officiating. Burial will be in the Chesterhill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Thursday, October 20 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and at the Church 1 hour prior services on Friday.
