Chester “Chet” Nelson Cunningham, MSgt, USAF (Ret.), age 88, of Stockport, OH, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2026. Born July 27, 1937, to Nash and Goldie Cunningham, he was the fifth of nine children. Chet married Barbara (Ferrebee) Cunningham on September 10, 1957. During their 64-year marriage, they had two sons, Marc and Steve. After graduating from Windsor High School in 1956, Chester dedicated 20 years to the U.S. Air Force, serving through the Vietnam conflict and the Cold War with tours in England, Germany, Spain, Guam, and the Philippines. As a Special Agent for the AFOSI, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal. Upon retiring in 1976, he returned to Stockport with his devoted wife, Barb, and two sons, Marc and Steve. Chet later earned a degree from Muskingum Technical College and spent 15 years with the Central Ohio Coal Company, retiring in 1993. Chet is survived by his wife, Vicki White; sister, Shirley Calendine; sons, Marc (Jill) Cunningham and Steve Cunningham; stepsons, Matt (Cristal) White, Mark White and John (Tabatha) White, grandchildren, Joni Jones, Zachary (Rachel) Cunningham, Shara (Rolf) Baumgartel, Robert (Sheena) Cunningham, Randi Cunningham, and Stevi (Zack) Dearinger. Step-grandchildren, Tieghlor (Alex) Thompson, Devon Mills, Aidan (Rose) Mills, Koda White, Jagger and Brayzen White, Case White, Lindcie Osborne, Sydney White, Molly White and Ellie White, Great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Paige, Alix, Esmae, Mason, Taylor, Joel, Landon, Colton, Stetson, Kayson, Zoey, Odin, Jordan, and Kobi, step-great grandchildren, Levi and LeAnne He is preceded in death by his parents, Wayland Nashville and Goldie Ella (Thornily) Cunningham, his wife, Barbara Cunningham, and siblings, Betty, Elmer, Harley, Wayne, Georgia, Robert, and Maxine. He will be remembered as a man of integrity who loved his family and served his country with honor. Services will be held on Thurs, Feb 5, 2026 at 12:00 Noon at the Mathene4y Funeral Home in McConnelsville with burial following in the Stockport Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 10-12 on the day of the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Tabor Ridge Christian School, at 6727 Tabor Ridge Road, Stockport, Ohio, 43787.
