Chester “Chet” Curtis, 85, of McConnelsville, Ohio, passed away on October 7, 2026. He was born November 16, 1940 to George Okey Curtis and Emma Stevens Curtis, in Dart, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Phyllis “Sue” Curtis, his brothers Paul Curtis, Elmer Curtis, Ronald “Red” Curtis, Okey Junior Curtis, David Curtis and his sisters, Leah Bernadine LaFaber, Sarah Beaver, Jewell Eloise Montgomery and brother-in-law, Marvin George. Chet is survived by his children, Chet Jr.. (Wanda) Curtis, Sheryl (Jared) Hooper, and Mike (Twila) Curtis; his grandchildren, Sheena (Rob) Cunningham, Tyrell Curtis and Kaywin Edwards, Nora (Michael) Riggs, Olivia Hooper, Melissa (David) Wallace, Tim (Jen) Curtis, Casey (Kyla Robinson) Curtis, Dylan Curtis and Joey Curtis; 14 great grandchildren; sister Irma Boyer; brothers Ivan (Shirley) Curtis, Irvin (Cindy) Curtis; brothers-in-law, Duane George, Gary (Betty) George, Allen (Stacey) George; sister-in-law, Linda (Bobby) Palmore and many special nieces and nephews. Chet honorably served four years in the United States Navy as a Radarman, obtaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class from December 30, 1958 to December 17, 1962. In addition, he served from March 25, 1957 to December 29, 1958 in the Ohio National Guard. Chet retired from AEP (Ohio Power Company) and was a member of the Morgan County Coyote Hunters. He enjoyed fishing and all types of hunting and was an avid runner, who ran the Columbus and Boston Marathons. For many years he enjoyed supporting the Morgan Raider cross country and track teams by running with them, attending their meets, and encouraging them. Service will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026 at 12:00 Noon at the Matheney Funeral Home with burial following in the Meigsville Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 10-12 on the day of the services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chet’s name to the Morgan Cross Country or Morgan Track and Field, 800 Raider Drive, McConnelsville, Ohio 43756.
