Clarence R. Newton, 84, of Chesterhill, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at 3:50a.m. at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus. He was born on February 21, 1925 in Chesterhill to the late George W. and Irma B. Michener Newton and was a Rural Mail Carrier for 30 years, a WWII Army veteran in the 137 Regiment in the battle of the Bulge. A member of the Chesterhill United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir, a member of the DAV, American Legion Post # 24 in McConnelsville and the Morgan County Purple Heart Association. He is survived by one son, Thomas W. Newton of Baltimore, one daughter, Connie Dunn of Corning, two brothers, Richard and Howard Newton both of Chesterhill, two sisters, Maxine Scott, and Ilo Armstrong both of Chesterhill, six grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Wilma Smith Newton, and one brother, Dow Newton. Services will be held on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 11:00a.m. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with pastors Gary and Tina Simmons Officiating and burial following at the Bartlett Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations to the Morgan County Purple Heart Association.
