Delbert Matson Obit Delbert Alan Matson Born September 24, 1917 in Broadwell, Ohio, died at his home in Chuluota Florida at the age of 94, Monday, February 6, 2012. Delbert was the son of the late Nellie G. (Linscott) and Norrick Matson. Delbert was a graduate of Bartlett High School. He farmed in the local area and later enlisted in the army. While he was stationed in Texas, Pearl Harbor was bombed December, 07, 1941. Delbert was immediately assigned to the Pacific Theater, where he distinguished himself by earning, Asiatic-Pacific Theater w/3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/1 Bronze Star, and many more. He once told us he was in a fox hole for over 30 days and never took his boots off during that time. When Delbert was 93 years of age he was privileged to be among one of the First World War two veterans to be invited to fly to Washington, D.C. with one of the first groups from Honor Flight of Brevard County Florida to visit the memorial dedicated to him and his generation. He was escorted by his son, Kenneth D. White, of Titusville, FL Besides his parents, Delbert was predeceased by his beloved wife and soul mate, Ruth (Layton) White Matson, his brother, Vernette and his sisters Katherine (Matson) Roberts and Shirley (Matson) Rice. Delbert is survived his son, Kenneth (Linda) White of Titusville, FL, his three brothers, Gerald (Pauline) Matson of Ohio, Max (Jenny)Matson of Debary and Bob (Betty) Matson of Ohio. He also leaves his three sisters, Opal Cummings of Chuluota, FL who lovingly cared for him in his final days, Jean Matson of Chuluota, FL and Joann Travis of Ohio. Mr. Matson was the proud Granddad to Kimberly (Ron) Hivley, Mark (Kelly) White, and Jennifer White. Delbert also leaves two great granddaughters. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 10, 2012 at Stone-Matheney Funeral home in Chesterhill, Ohio, followed by interment in Mount Hermon Cemetery near Amesville. Friends may call on the family on Thursday, February 9, from 6-8 P.M.
