Donald James Murphy, 88 of Malta, Ohio passed away at 1:20 a.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville. He was born August 24, 1922 in Morgan County to the late James Henry and Flora Parker Murphy. He was an active member of the Main Street Church of Christ, where he served in several offices in earlier years and also served as a Sunday school teacher for many years,He was also a veteran of World War II, having served in Normandy, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He retired from Central Ohio Coal Company. He is survived by his wife, Louise Balderson Murphy whom he married on September 20, 1951. Also surviving are four sons; Michael (Sunny) of McConnelsville, Mark (Brenda) of Stockport, Max (Rita) of Malta and Brian (Patty) of Belmont; 11 grandchildren; 6 great- grandchildren; and two step- great-grandchildren; a sister, Della Bratton of McConnelsville. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Clint Roberts; two brothers, Delford and Dwight; a sister, Dortha Newburn; and a foster sister, Mary Williams. Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 19, 2010 at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville where services will be held at 11:00a.m. Monday, September 20, 2010 with Evangelist Vernon Eldridge officiating. Burial will be in Malta Cemetery.
