Edna Mildred Thorne Ropeter 99, entered heaven on Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Formerly of Zanesville, She resided at the Genesis Health and Rehab Center in McConnelsville, Ohio. Edna was the daughter of A. W. and Ruth Emma Howard Thorne. She was born on April 24, 1910 in Seaman, West Va. Her family consisted of seven brothers and three sisters. They moved to Gallia County, Ohio where Edna spent her childhood. After graduation from Rio Grande High School, Edna married her life-long sweetheart, George Reynold (Skeet) Ropeter. To this union was born their only child, Anita Kay Ropeter. Edna was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was energetic, fun-loving, extremely creative, and most importantly, a Christian. She loved taking care of her family. Skeet and Edna lived many places during their life together: Circleville, Athens, Alexandria, Thornville, Somerset, and Zanesville, Ohio. After Skeet retired from Nationwide Insurance, they traveled all over the U.S. They danced as Arthur Murray Dancers. Eventually, they chose to reside in Fort Myers Beach, Florida during the winter months. Skeet passed away in Florida on December 4, 1986, and Edna came home to Zanesville. In Zanesville, she was embraced by her loving friends and church family at Grace United Methodist Church. She loved going to OWLS group at the church and participating in the trips etc. Edna's neighbors helped her stay in her home along with granddaughters Kelly and Peggy. Kelly and Peggy spent many hours taking her to the store and seeing to her personal needs. Kelly bought the house next door to Edna to care for her. In 2001, at 90 years of age, Edna decided to sell her home and move to Genesis Health and Rehab in McConnelsville to be near her daughter. She enjoyed 9 years of wonderful, loving care at this new home. She will be missed by all her caregivers. Survivors include: daughter Anita Kay Coffey and son-in-law Richard Coffey of McConnelsville, Ohio, Grandchildren; Amy (Kim) Tabler of Williamstown, W.Va, Kelly Coffey of Zanesville, Ohio, Peggy (Lance) Lawyer of Blue Rock, Ohio, Casey Coffey of Thornville, Ohio, Great-Grandchildren; Cassie Shaner of Morgantown, W.Va., Brandon Tabler of Williamstown, W.Va., Sister Lula Ruth Perry, The Plains, Ohio, Sister-in-law, Frieda Thorne of Rio Grande, Ohio, and many, many nieces, nephews and friends. Deceased in addition to her husband are: brothers Minor Howard Thorne, Everett O. Thorne, Hubert E. Thorne, King David Thorne, Merchant L. Thorne, Ernest G. Thorne, Frederick E. Thorne; Sisters Ada Thorne Fox and Goldie Rose Davis. Edna has chosen a caring cremation. A celebration of her life will be held Monday, July 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Gospel Ministry in McConnelsville with Pastors Galen Finley and Steven McGuire officiating. Family will receive friends two hours prior to the services. Immediately following the services refreshments will be served in the social hall. At her request, a private family scattering of her ashes will be held at a later date.
