Obituary

Elton C. Hickerson, 93, of McConnelsville, Ohio, passed peacefully from this life on Sept. 19, 2015, at his home with his children by his side. He was born in Penn Township, attended Hickory Ridge School, and graduated from Penn High School Class of 1940. Elton was a World War II veteran, who proudly served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired construction worker, a licensed real estate agent for Kenton Ray Realty, and operated a small farm and orchard. His hobbies included woodworking, beekeeping, gardening, fishing and hunting. He was an active member of the Church of Christ in Pennsville where he served as an elder and Bible class teacher for more than 40 years. Elton was always willing to help and was called on by family, friends, and neighbors for advice and assistance. Elton is survived by one brother, Melvin (Jessie) Hickerson of Malta; and three children, Carol (Leo) Pierce of Cortland, Naomi (Dean) Wright of McConnelsville and Dan (Vicky) Hickerson of Pennsville. He leaves nine grandchildren, Kristin (Jonathan) Campbell of Findlay, Leo (Brandi) Pierce of Dublin, Jennifer Wright of Vienna, W.Va., Michael (Candy) Wright of McConnelsville, Angela (James) Hoskinson of McConnelsville, Gabriel (Heather) Hickerson of Beverly, Casey Hickerson of Vincent, Amy Hickerson of Pennsville and Emily Hickerson of Indianapolis, Ind.; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Jean Hartley Hickerson; his parents, Errett and Maude Hickerson; one sister, Wilma Morrow; and three brothers, Marion, David and Sherman Hickerson. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Church of Christ in Pennsville, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Keith Kress, minister of Norval Park Church of Christ and former minister at the Church of Christ in Pennsville, will officiate the funeral service. His body will be laid to rest at Pennsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pennsville Church of Christ, 1660 State Rt 377, Stockport, OH 43787.
