McCONNELSVILLE - Fred Scott Baker, 78, of Ohio 377, Pennsville, passed away at 5:32 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born July 10, 1930, in Stockport, to the late Clyde Baker and Bella Goodwill Baker. He was a retired laborer for Taylor Woodcraft in Malta and a Korean War Army veteran. He was a member of the Pennsville Church of Christ, Pennsville Volunteer Fire Department since 1967, where he was a trustee and the treasurer, and the Morgan County Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife, Jean Bennett Baker of Pennsville; one son, Freddy (Dianna) Baker of Pennsville; one daughter, Loretta (John) Davis of Pennsville; two sisters, Irene Dawson of McConnelsville and Imogene Rowland of Cicinnatti; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Lester Baker; two sisters, Ida Wells and Mary McDermott; and one granddaughter, Patricia Baker. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Matheney Funeral Home. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, at the funeral home, with Evangelist Larry Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Pennsville Cemetery, with military services conducted by the Morgan County Veterans Association.
