Obituary

Gary Curtis Stanley Sr., 76, born June 8th, 1949. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather better known as Papaw passed away on February 6, 2026. Born in Martin County, Kentucky to Harland and Dixie Stanley. Gary was a hardworking man who spent his life providing for his family as a construction worker for Complete General for 40 years. Through long days and honest work, he showed, by example, the value of dedication, strength, and doing things the right way. For 58 beautiful years, he was married to the love of his life, Phyllis. A woman he adores and spoiled every single day. Their marriage was a wonderful example of commitment and partnership. Gary was the proud father of three children: Gary Curtis (Curt) Stanley Jr. (Jody) Stanley, Bradley (Monica) Stanley, and Lorrie Hopkins (Zach). Grandchildren: Dylan, Montanna (Luke), Mackenzie (Blake), Rachael, Brooklyn, Joe, Tiffany (Payden), and Zebadiah (Rachel). Great-grandchildren: August, Clay, Eva, and Ella. Two brothers, Roland (Kathy) Stanley and Ronnie (Emily) Stanley. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Gordon, Gene, and Tony. Two sisters, Judy and Phyllis. Gary will always be remembered for his faith, strong work ethic, kind heart, quiet strength, and deep love he had for his family. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. He will be forever loved and deeply missed. Services are to be announced. To send a note of condolence to the family, please visit www.matheneyfh.com.
