George D. Gifford, 88 of Malta Ohio died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009 at 10:00p.m. He was born in Penn Township on September 6, 1920 to the late Walter E. and Iva E. Smith Gifford. He was a farmer and retired from Malta Manufacturing in Malta. He was a WWII Army veteran and served in the 519th Military Police Battalion. He was a member of the Pennsville United Methodist Church, the Pennsville Grange #1754 where he was awarded the Golden Sheaf for 50 years of membership and was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. He is survived by one son Leroy D. and Diana Gifford of Zanesville, four daughters, Frances and John Lent of Malta, Joyce and Jerry Browning of Willoughby, Teresa Campbell of McConnelsville, and Cynthia Wells of Pennsville, one brother, Howard Gifford of Marietta, five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Della Gifford (Oct. 30, 2007), three daughters, Charlotte Gifford, Leora Gifford and Elsie McKown, three brothers, Emmett, Harry, and Fred, three sisters, Ernestine Wilson, Florence Williams and Martha Bryan. Services will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at 1:00p.m. at the Pennsville United Methodist Church in Pennsville with burial following in the Pennsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Morgan County Veteran Association.
