THORNVILLE: Gerald Lee Reed, 91, of Thornville, formerly of McConnelsville passed away at 10:07 a.m. Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark. He was born December 12, 1922 in Durant, Ohio to Felma Homman Reed and Ogle Reed.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 67 years, Mary Reed; and sisters, Rhea June Reed and Eileen Reed Snyder Calendine.

Gerald was a life long resident of Morgan County, was a construction worker and member of Local Union 986, and retired employee of JPI Inc. after 22 years of service. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served as Chairman of Administrative Council and Board of Trustees for 26 years. He was formerly a member of Gaysport United Methodist Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and other committee responsibilites. He was a 60 year member of Corinthian Lodge F&AM Masonic Lodge where he served as secretary and trustee, a member of Cambridge Valley Chapter #19 of Scottish Rite, and a member of Eastern Star. He was a Bloom Township Trustee for 24 years, Chairman of Morgan County Trustees and Clerks for 12 years, and a member of the Ohio Trustees and Clerks Association. He served his community on the Morgan County Health Dept. Board, Morgan County Planning Committee, Morgan County Council on Aging, the Cancer Board, Chairman of the Rupublican Central Committee in Morgan County for many years, and the Muskingum, Morgan and Perry Counties United Way Board of Directors. He served his country in the US Army Air Force in World War II in Europe and was awarded the EAME Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, and was a member of American Legion Post # 24 in McConnelsville and the VFW #4713 in Malta. He was a member of the Public Employees Retirement System of Ohio.

He is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Lynn) Boetcher of Pickerinton; and son, Robert Reed of Thornville; five grandchildren: Jill (Brian) Bosch, Tad Boetcher, Jocie (Wade) McGlothlin, Jennie Seum and Keri Reed; five great grandchildren: Brittany Bosch, Kaylie Bosch, Ethan McGlothlin, Shelby Seum and Caryn Grogan. He is also survived by his sisters: Reva Ribble, Vera Alexander; his brother, Bobby (Freda) Reed; and special friend, Calvin Parmiter

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Reverend Jennifer Johnston Baker officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
