Goldie Young Hoon, age 100, formerly of Chesterhill, Ohio, died at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at her current residence, Appletree Assisted Living, Vincent, Ohio. She was born January 17, 1909 in Broadwell, Ohio, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Elizabeth Holdcroft Young. She graduated from Amesville High School in 1926, and married Ross Hoon on April 25, 1929. She worked several years for G. C. Murphy in Parkersburg, West Virginia. She started working at Hudson Health Center at Ohio University , Athens, Ohio, in 1957, and retired from there in 1978 after 21 years of service. Goldie was famous for her homemade pies, noodles, and crocheting. She was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, and was an active chaperone for the Methodist Youth Group at the Lancaster Campgrounds. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Olive Chapter #326 OES, and the Marion Rebekah Lodge in Chesterhill. She was a member of the Chesterhill United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years and was active in the United Methodist Womens Group. She is survived by one son: James Hoon of Cutler, 2 daughters: Marjorie Sebring of Athens, and Kay (John) Vanderhooft of Blue Ridge, Ga., 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ross, 1 daughter: Eleanor Lee Parsons, 1 son-in-law: Robert A. Sebring, 1 daughter-in-law: Ann Hoon, 1 grandson: James Mark Sebring, 3 brothers: Ralph, John, and Joe Young, and 6 sisters: Alice Young, Myrtle Sargent, Ethel Ackley, Berniece White, Dorothy Sargent, and Martha Mc Knabb. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until service time.
