Harold E. (Gene) Parsons of Chesterhill, Ohio passed away on Wednesday May 16, 2018 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born May 15, 1937 in Chesterhill to the late Henry and Esther Mills Parsons. Gene was one often children and learned the value of hard work at an early age. For several he worked as a foreman for HR Holderman Construction Company building roads across the state. He got his start in the mining and explosives industry working for Gulf Chemicals and later operated H & H Mining Supplies in Chesterhill for several years. He also worked for Atlas Powder Company, Econex and Southern Ohio Explosives. For the past twenty years he worked for SAS Contracting Corporation up until his time of death. He was well known in the industry and liked and respected by all who knew him. He always said though, that his greatest legacy was his family. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His example of hard work and sacrifice taking care of those he loved and his great sense of humor will be cherished by his family forever. Gene was a member of the Tabor Ridge Church of Christ and he loved his church family. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years Marilyn Medley Parsons. Four children Cary (Karen) Parsons, Marla (Dan) Slisher, Craig (Sherri) Parsons and Andrew (Stephanie) Parsons all of Chesterhill. Four granddaughters Mindy (Gary) Judson, Amy (Jeremy) Kirkbride, Kayla (Josh) McElfresh Keira Marie Parsons and a step-granddaughter Alyssa Wilson. He was "Papa Gene" to eight great-grandchildren Raegan and Harleigh Judson, Blake, Brooklyn, Beau and Bailev Kirkbride, Shelby and Maggie McElfresh. He is also survived by two brothers Conrad (Hazel) Parsons of Marietta and Howard (Darlene) Parsons of Chesterhill, two sisters-in-law Martha Harlow of McConnelsville and Mary (Cletus) Miller of Middlebury, IN, a brother-in-law Earl Mosier of Chesterhill and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister Marie Parsons Abel and six brothers Russel, Wilbur, Gail, Marion (Shug), Clovis and Doug Parsons. Calling hours will be from 4-8 PM Saturday at Stone Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Funeral will be held at the Tabor Ridge Church of Christ Sunday at 2:00 with Pastor Sam Bungard officiating. Burial will be in the Chesterhill Cemetery.
