Obituary

Harry "Joe" Lucas, age 72, of Athens, Ohio, passed away at 5:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at his residence, following a long illness. He was born on March 3, 1938 , in Cutler to the late Harry and Marie Harris Lucas. Joe worked for Ohio University as a custodian and was a member of the Hagey Mission in Stewart. He is survived by his wife Carol , of the home, 1 son: James Lucas of Chillicothe; 1 daughter: Yvonne Lucas of Athens; 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 2 brothers: Allen Lucas of Amesville, and Charlie Lucas of Marietta; 8 sisters: Bessie Francis of Marietta, Verna Teetsel and Mary Thompson of Chesterhill, Sharon Alexander and Blanche Hill of Zanesville, Maxine Dansby of Coshocton, Viola Flowers of Stewart, and Joanne Mayle of Canton. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Donald Lucas and Harry Joe Lucas, one daughter, Dorthy Lucas, one brother Archie Lucas, three sisters Jenny McCune, Martha Lucas and Rita Goins. Services will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Hermon Church near Amesville with the Rev. John Butcher officiating. Friends may call at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Tuesday, from 5-9 p.m. and 1 hour prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
