Hilma R. VanHorn, 81, of Malta, passed away at 2:35 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
She was born July 4, 1933, in Rose Farm, to the late William F. Ross and Sylvia Kangas Ross.
Mrs. VanHorn had worked at the Ohio State University and was a 57-year member of the Church of Nazarene in McConnelsville. She collected angels, doll babies and loved to quilt.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen (Tim) Jenkins of Marysville; two sons, Tim (Freda) VanHorn of Malta and Tracey VanHorn of Pleasant City; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Tonya Mia VanHorn of Warrensburg, MO; one sister, Lillian (Terry) Strawn of Groveport; three brothers, Richard (Dorothy) Ross of Groveport, Dan (Betty) Ross of Tuscan, AZ, and Mike (Kay) Ross of Pataskala.
* In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William VanHorn; a son, David L. VanHorn; two grandchildren; a sister, Ann Newman; and two brothers, William and Jim Ross.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Church of Nazarene in McConnelsville and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at the church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the church with Pastor Dale Campbell and Tim VanHorn officiating.
Hilma will be laid to rest next to her husband, William, in Zion Cemetery in Portersville.
