Iona Hope Downing, 90, of the Riverside Country Care Center in McConnelsville, formerly of Stockport, passed away Sunday (July 17, 2011) at 12:30 p.m. at the nursing home. She was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Morgan County, to the late Lawrence Taylor and Gladys Barnhouse Taylor.

Iona was retired from the Curtis-Wright Company of Columbus. She is survived by her husband, Francis Downing of McConnelsville; a daughter, Carolyn Spencer of Waterford; a son, Gary Downing of Pennsville; three grandchildren, Lori Schilling of Beverly, Brian Spencer of Waterford, and Renee Bole of Pennsville; two stepgrandchildren, Kristin Hallowell of McConnelsville, and Chelsi Williams of Pennsville; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Faryl Taylor of Reynoldsburg; four brothers, Jim Taylor of Malta, Donald Taylor of McConnelsville, Andrew Taylor of Zanesville, and Roy Taylor of McConnelsville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Keith Downing; two sisters, Rena Kraft and Helen Boyd; three brothers, Charles Taylor, Lawrence Taylor Jr., and Richard Taylor; and a grandson-in-law, Greg Schilling.

At Iona's request no calling hours or services will be held. A caring cremation will take place. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Fairview Cemetery.
