Obituary

Jack F. Matheney, 88, of McConnelsville passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023.  He was born on July 10, 1934 in Deavertown, Ohio to the late Fredrick and Freda Latta Matheney.  Jack was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served in the Korean conflict.  He retired from Central Ohio Coal Company as a maintenance foreman and worked on the Big Muskie.  He was a member of the Shrine Club in McConnelsville and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.  Jack was an avid golfer and enjoyed going to Florida in the winter months.  He also enjoyed coonhunting with his brother Bill and grandson B.J.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Burkhart Matheney of the home; a daughter, Mitzi Matheney of Pickerington; a grandson B.J. Tedder (Krista) of Pickerington; three sisters, Susie Thompson of Columbus, Kathy Glaser of Columbus and Nora Sanford of Toledo; a brother, Richard Riffle of Michigan; two great-granddaughters Emily and Harper Tedder.  He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Bill Matheney, Melvin and Jerry Riffle.  A celebration of life will be held on Sun, Jan. 8, 2023 from 1-2 P.M. followed by Military services at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.  Memorial contribution may be made to Shrivers Hospice.
