Jackie L. Nelson Sr, 89, of Malta, passed away on Tues, Jan. 2, 2024 at his residence in Malta.  He was born on May 23, 1934 in Marietta, Ohio to the late Bernice Nelson.  He was the Chief of Police in Malta for over 14 years and served 16 years, 4 terms as the Morgan County Sheriff.  He was a member of the Malta Methodist Church and the Buckeye State Sheriff's Association.  He is survived by 2 sons, Jackie L. Nelson Jr. of Nevada and Kerry (Lynnette) Nelson of Clover, VA, a daughter, Kelly (Tom) McCoy of Malta, 5 grandchildren, Alicia Rae (Joe) Rucker of Johnstown, Addy (J.J.) Collins of Coldwater, Gabrielle Nelson of Richmond VA, Keeley Nelson of Scottsville VA and Wyatt Nelson of Clover VA. and 7 great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his mother, wife, Sally Yoder Nelson, 2 sisters, Marian White and Norma Ferguson and a great granddaughter.  Services will be held on Sat, Jan. 6, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Malta Methodist Church in Malta with burial following in the Malta Cemetery.  Friends may call on the family on Fri, Jan. 5 from 4-7 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Malta Methodist Church.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.
