James Mark Collis McCord, 84 of McConnelsville, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at 12:40a.m at the Riverside Country Care Center in McConnelsville. He was born on September 19, 1925 in East Columbus, Indiana to the late James O. and Laura M. Koehler McCord. James started his career as a minister at the Metz Christian Church in Metz Indiana, and then moved to the Piqua Church of Christ in Piqua, Ohio. He then moved to Huntington West Virginia where he was the minister of the West Moreland Church of Christ and the Chaplin at the Huntington Veterans Hospital, and retired from the First Christian Church of Leesburg Florida. He served in the campaigns of Guam and Iwojima as a U. S. Marine where he receive a purple heart and four bronze stars, and was released from duty at the age of 20. He is survived by his wife Charlene McCord of the home, one son, Scott McCord of Clermont Florida, three daughters, Pam Campbell of Alexandria Virginia, Kathi Kretzer of Tequesta Florida, and Susan Kaufman of Atlanta Georgia, two grandchildren, Laura Schadle and Amanda Kretzer, one great grandchild and one on the way. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Michael, three brothers, Paris, Chester, and Merle McCord, and two sisters, Vesta Long and Verna Rogers. Services will be held Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 2:00p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the services at the St. Saviour On The River Church in Eagleport with The Rev. James M. Ryerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Dutch Hill Cemetery with full military honors provided by the Morgan County Veteran Association.
