James D. McKinney, 82, of McConnelsville, passed away at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday May 29, 2012 at his home.
He was born July 9,1929 in Lockbourne, OH, to the late Russel McKinney and Kathryn Stewart McKinney.
James was a 1947 graduate of Groveport High School and was a graduate of Capital University. He worked at the Ohio State Department Of Education in the finance department while completing his education, and received his Master's Degree at Ohio University.
He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired superintendent of Morgan Local Schools for 18 years. He served on the boards of Peoples Bank and Washington State Community College. He was also on the Executive Committee of the Buckeye Assoc. of School Administrators.
In 2004, he received the "Founders Award" by the Ohio Assoc. of Community Colleges. Jim was a longtime member of the Malta-McConnelsville Kiwanis Club and the Corinthian Lodge No. 111 F&AM of McConnelsville.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Sallee McKinney; a daughter, JoAnne McKee of McConnelsville; a son, Jeff (Erin Marie) McKinney of Wheaton, IL; four grandchildren, Seth (Amy) McKinney of Seattle, WA, Elysa (Andy) Roberts of Zanesville, and Tyler McKee and Michelle McKee, both of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard McKinney.
Calling hours will be Sunday, June 3, from 2-4 p.m. at the James D. McKinney Little Theater at Morgan High School near McConnelsville, where a memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. with Pastor Galen Finley officiating.
Military honors will be provided by the Morgan County Veteran's Group. At Jim's request, a caring cremation will take place.
