James R. Strode, 90, of Stockport, passed away on Weds. Sept. 12, 2018 at his residence. He was born on Oct. 24, 1927 in Elliots Crossroads to the late Frank Clair and Bessie Howard Strode. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and worked as the plant operator at the Stockport Silver Hills plant for Chesterhill Stone. He also work as a farmer on his farm and many others in the area. He attended the Chesterhill United Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Chestehill Vol. Fire Dept. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Miller Strode of the home, 1 son, Michael (Amy) Strode of Stockport, 3 daughters, Karen (Bill) Huck of Midland, Tx, Kelly (William) Cleveland of Marietta and Billie Jo Richards of Chesterhill, 1 brother, Don Strode of New Port, 1 sister, Mary Emma Newsom of Stockport, 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Howard Strode. Services will be held on Sat. Sept. 15, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Pastor Stanley Strode officiating. Burial will follow in the Westland Cemetery near Pennsville. Friends may call on the family on Fri. Sept. 14 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chesterhill Fire Dept. new truck fund.
