Janet L. Eckert, 89, of Stockport, passed away at 9:28 Thursday, September 12, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on June 28,1935 in Athens, Ohio to the late Lawrence "Willard" and Beulah Boudinot Skinner. Janet was a 1953 graduate of Athens High School. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and canning for her family and friends. Her smile lit up the room and she was always full of love, but her greatest joy in life was her family. She married Don Eckert on April 30,1955, and over 69 years of marriage raised their family. Children Christi, Mike (Apreal), Phil (Charlene), Shelly Eckert, all of Stockport, and Melanie (Jerry) White of Winston-Salem, NC. Grandchildren Michael (Danielle) Eckert, Carrie (Scott) Lang, Davis Eckert, Daryk (Ericka) Eckert, Devan (Jake) Eier and Noah and Cameron White. Great-grandchildren Kylee Eckert, Gwen and Marcus Lang, Zadyn and Zander Eckert, Rydge Eckert and Jace Eier, as well as their precious dog Lexie. She is also survived by a sister Bonnie Westfall of Malta, sisters-in-law Nancy (Stan) Starling, Norma Jean Scott, Irene Eckert, Sue Eckert. Brothers-in-law Richard (Thelma) Eckert and Ken Cunningham. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Wanda (Don) Cone, Lola (Wayne) Holloway, brothers Buddy (Midge) Skinner, Orv (Janet) Skinner. Sisters-in-law Kathleen "Sis" (Richard) Stocker, Patricia (Ray) Keppler and Ruth Cunningham. Brothers-in-law Robert (Doris) Eckert, Ted (Ardy) Eckert, David Evans, Dan Eckert and Jimmy Eckert. Calling hours will be held at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill on Sunday, September 15 from 12-2 with the funeral immediately following. She will be laid to rest at Oakland Cemetery. A gathering will be held after at the family pavilion on Eckert Rd. In memory of Janet, contributions can be made to Ohio Special Olympics (Morgan County in the memo line) or the Stockport Volunteer Fire Department. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Shrivers Hospice and Rhett Matheney. Special thanks to her wonderful and loving daughter Melanie and granddaughter Carrie for the tender loving care they gave her over the last few weeks.
