Jean Oyer, 84, of Chesterhill, passed away Monday, Sept. 14, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born Jan. 22, 1931 in Malta, Ohio the daughter of the late Hobart and Madge Thomas Carter. Jean loved the Lord with ferocity throughout her life and chose to serve him in various capacities. She served as a missionary in Honduras, France, Belgium and various other locations. She also worked at Cedine Bible Camp in Tennessee for a number of years. Throughout her life she remained an active member of the Chesterhill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William S. Schofield, Jr. her second husband, Dorman Oyer, a son, Gary Lee Schofield, her twin sister, Jane Bowman and sister, Nancy Surratt and granddaughter, Kelsey Jo Lauer. She will be deeply missed by her son and daughter-in-law Stephen and Mary Schofield, her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Robert Carl Lauer, her brother Roger and Sandy Carter, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jean lived her life as a testimony to her love for the Lord and her reunion with Him brings great joy and peace to her family. Services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2015 at 12:00 P.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill with Pastor Richard Purvis officiating. Burial will follow in the Chesterhill Cemetery. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chesterhill United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
