John H. Kitts, 75, of Dresden, passed away on Thurs, Aug. 7, 2025 at the Ohio State University Hospital. He was born on Oct. 11, 1949 in Charleston, W.Va. to the late Reeford and Mary Akers Kitts. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. John worked for over 35 years as the Morgan County Veterans Service Officer helping local veterans. He was a member of numerous American Legion's, VFW's and was a life member of the DAV. He was an avid motorcyclist and loved riding all over the country with his wife Jan. He is survived by his wife Jan E. Bates of the home, a son, John Scott Kitts of Portersville, step-son, Dane (Kelley) Cubbison of Dresden, 3 brothers-in-law, Scott (Robin) Bates of Dresden, Mike Bates of Springfield and Jon (Deb) Bates of Frazeysburgh, sister, Susie Denton of Beverly and sister-in-law, Charolette Kitts of Beverly. He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry Kitts. A visitation will be held on Tues, Aug. 12, 2025 from 5-7 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville followed by a military service. John will be buried in the Arlington Cemetery at a later date and time. Donations can be made to AMVETS Post 1788, Attn. Veteran Distressed Fund, 141 Colgate Dr. Marietta, OH 45750. Make checks payable to AMVETS Post 1788 with Veteran Distressed Fund in the memo.
