John Matas of Malta, Ohio passed away on August 21, 2011 at his farm home with his wife Dessie Frances, at this side. He was born September 25, 1927 in Newton Falls, Trumbull County, Ohio to the late Michael and Elizabeth Matas. While residing in Newton Falls, he worked for Rockwell Standard until his retirement. He then relocated to his farm in southern Ohio (Malta) to pursue hunting and to raise beef cattle. He was a World War II Army Veteran, and a life long member of the V.F.W. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dessie Frances, a sister Marie Jura and ten of his twelve children. They are: John Matas (Faye) of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Joann Taylor of Jeromesville, Ohio, Edward Matas (Diane) of Newton Falls, James Matas (Carol) of Hollywood, Forida, Michael Matas (Paricia) of Newton Falls, Mary Chern (Michael) of Malta, Richard Matas (Jennifer) of Berlin Center, Ohio, Judy Abraham (Fred) of Newton Falls, Andrew Matas of Malta, Robert Matas of Las Vegas, Nevada and eighteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by two sons, Roger and Paul Matas, and by his brothers Joseph, Michael,George, Steve and Edward Matas. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the James Funeral Home 8 E. Broad Strett Newton Falls, Ohio . Chapel services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the St. Joseph's Cemetery Chapel in Newton Falls, Ohio. Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville, Ohio is in charge of local arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.miller-huck.com.
