Karen R. Smith of Malta, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on Dec. 25, 1944 in Chesterhill to the late Wilford and Esta Duncan Smith. She retired after 19 years working as a custodian for the Morgan High School. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mendel A. Smith of the Home, 3 sons, Andrew Smith of Whipple, Matthew (Lisa) Smith of Zanesville and Sammy (Stacey) Smith of Duncan Falls, 3 daughters, Shelli Lewis of Waterford, Lori (David) Work of McConnelsville and Jenni (David) Beattey of Nashport, 2 brothers, Donald Smith of Fresno, Ca, and Tony Smith of McConnelsville, 3 sisters, Anita Robinson of Lubec, W.Va, Sue Metcalf of Chesterhill and Marcia Tigner of Chesterhill, 16 grandchildren, Ashley, Josh, Brandon, Gabby, Cody, Beth, Amanda, Dylan, Jordan, Emily, Jonathan, KyAnne, Anthony, Ethan, Isabella and Phoebe, 1 great grandson, Ashton. She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother Merlin Smith. Services will be held on Sat. Aug. 5, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville with burial following in the Malta Cemetery. Friends may call on the family on Friday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 P.M.
