Kenneth Gene Russell, 74, of Stockport Ohio passed away Tuesday, April 16 at his home. Gene was born June 29, 1944 in Palmer Township to the late Kenneth and Mary Russell. He lived his life proudly through God, Family, and Country. Gene served in the Ohio Army National Guard, 2nd 174th battalion, for 32 years at which point he retired at 60 years old. He was a man of few words, but was a "jack of all trades." To his friends and family he was a professional coffee maker, a home remodeler, an errand runner, and known for always keeping a well-manicured lawn, which he referred to as his "gift". Gene was a lover of God and always made sure to remind his family to stay "prayed up." Gene was a member and trustee of Liberty United Brethren Church of Stockport, Ohio where he proudly served the Lord. Gene is survived by his wife Marlene, his "Gracie", of 50 years. He also leaves his four children: Rod (Christina) Russell of Blacklick, Ohio, Lisa (Shawn) Gormley of Malta, Ohio, Amy (Jeff) Davison of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Angie (Shannon) Wagner of Waterford, Ohio. His five sisters: Joyce (Ron) Bush, Barbra Nolen, Dixie (Joe) Byrd, Connie (Ray) Sweeny, and Cheryl (Eddy) Skaggs. Nothing made Gene more proud than his grandchildren which he leaves: Taylor and Tori Gormley; Weston and Coen Wagner; Gabriella, Abigail, Zachary, and Andrew Davison, and a new grand baby due to be born in May to his son, Rod (Christina) Russell. In addition to his close family, he leaves behind three special sisters-in-law, Carolyn Love, Beverly Howard, and Barb VanNess; a brother-in-law, John Howard; many nieces and nephews who were near and dear to his heart; and all of his Brothers and Sisters in Christ at Liberty Church. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Russell; his brother, Duane Russell; and his granddaughter, Mary Tecla Russell. Services will be held on Sat. April 20, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill. Friends may call on the family from 11-1 P.M. on the day of the service.
