Mary Rogers Allen, 96 of McConnelsville, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 4:17 P.M. at the Emeritus at North Hills in Zanesville. She was born on September 6, 1916 in Beebe, Arkansas to the late Homer and Lu Rogers. Mary worked in Cincinnati where she met her late husband William D. Allen. They lived for a short time in Columbus and then moved to McConnelsville where her husband became co-owner of the Central Market grocery store. She was a charter member of the Study Club in McConnelsville, a member of the "Cotillion" in Athens and a past member of the Zanesville Country Club. Mary enjoyed playing golf and taking care of her home and family. She had a long time friendship with her sister-in-law, Marie Kidd of Little Rock, Arkansas and many friends in McConnelsville. She also loved her community. She is survived by two sons, William R. (Sharon) Allen of McConnelsville, and James H. (Frances) Allen of Covington, Kentucky, a brother, Lewis D. Rogers of Arkansas, grandchildren, Kimberlee Allen Tucker, James R. Allen and John H. Allen, great grandchildren, Alexander Allen, Lana Allen, Thomas Allen and Reed Tucker, and two step-grandchildren, Amanda Warner and Logan Harrelson. In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by three brothers, Homer, Walter and Dave Rogers and four sisters, Otis Marie Dunaway, Lottie Owens, Louise Rogers and LaConia Gentz. Services will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 12:00 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville with Pastor Galen Finley Officiating. Burial will follow in the McConnelsville Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 10-12 on the day of the funeral.
