Naomi C. Smith, age 87, of Canton passed away Monday, January 24, 2011. She was born May 21, 1923 in Bartlett , Ohio to the late Willard D. and Martha J. (Mayle) Ransom. Naomi worked at Economy Meat Market for several years before she became a dental assistant and went to work for Dr's Bircher and Rhodes. She is a member of Greater Bethel Apostolic Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Smith Sr.; sons, William and David Smith; brothers, Arthur and Raymond Ransom. Naomi is survived by her sons, Ed "Butch" (Mary) Smith of Canton and Daniel "LID" Smith of Canton; granddaughters, Kara (Simon) McCune of Chicago and Karissa Hogan of Canton; three great grandchildren, Kiersten, Alan and Simon II; sisters, Ella Ruth Smith, and Marianne (Arthur) Jackson both of Canton; Peggy (Melvin) Minerd of Belpre, Ohio; brother, Wayne Ransom of North Pointe Fla, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 12:00 pm at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church 2335 15th St. SW with Elder Carlos Morris officiating. Calling hours will be held in the church on Thursday, January 27 from 6 to 8 pm and also on Friday for one hour prior to services from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. The family will have additional calling hours on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home 7065 Marion St. Chesterhill, Ohio 43728 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm with burial to follow in the Mt. Herman Cemetery near Chesterhill , Ohio .
