Obituary

Oliver Wendell Hambel, 96, of Stockport, died on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012 at 1:50 P.M. at the Highland Oaks Nursing Home in McConnelsville. He was born on May 19, 1916 in Corning, Ohio to the late Everett and Gladys Updike Hambel and was a self-employed construction worker. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the Seventh Street Church of Christ in McConnelsville, Morgan County Senor Citizens, and a 60year member of Valley #145 Masonic Lodge in Malta. He is survived by 4 sons, Ronald (Phyllis) Hambel of Zanesville, Roger (Judy) Hambel of Malta, Randy (Tammy) Hambel of Zanesville and Mike Hambel of Stockport, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alta Farus Hambel, a sister, Wilda Hambel and 1 granddaughter, Robin Hambel. Services will be held on Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville with Sam Bartrug officiating. Burial will follow in the McConnelsville Cemetery with veteran services provided by the Morgan County Veterans Association. Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-7:30 P.M. with Masonic services following at 7:30 P.M.
