Paul Leonard Wood, 96, of McConnelsville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Genesis Hospital in Zanesville. He was born in Penn Township, Morgan County, March 25, 1926, to Francis Clyde Wood and Edith Jane Smith Wood. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific. He graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Education and an M.S. in Education Administration. Paul spent his life in the field of education as a teacher, principal, and in the Ohio State Department of Education. He is survived by a son, David Michael Wood (Dianna,deceased), of Stoutsville, OH; daughters Jane (Bitsy) Blackburn (Robert Howard, deceased), of McConnelsville; Patricia Roberts (Phil) of McConnelsville; and Megan Bratberg (Dave) of Austin, TX. He is survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen Lea Van Fossen Wood, whom he married April 24, 1946; his brother, Dana Leroy Wood; sister-in-law Geneva Wood; daughter-in-law Dianna Wood and son-in-law, Robert Howard Blackburn. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023, with services to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Burial at Pennsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Embree Park Association (Pennsville) and the American Legion Honor Guard (McConnelsville).
