Philip Benjamin Shiflett, age 72, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on September 16, 2026. Philip lived a life defined by honor, curiosity, and a deep-seated desire to help and educate others. A proud veteran, Philip served his country with distinction in the United States Marine Corps. His disciplined nature and sharp mind carried over into his professional life, where he worked as a talented automation programmer and electrician. He possessed a rare ability to understand how complex systems worked, a skill he shared generously with anyone eager to learn. Philip’s passions extended far into the skies and the outdoors. He was an avid pilot and aircraft builder, spending countless hours crafting and commanding his own planes. Believing strongly in personal responsibility and skill-building, he also dedicated his time as a certified NRA instructor, guiding others with patience and expertise. Philip had a big heart and kind soul. He was the kind of person that would go out of his way to help anyone in need, always giving of himself without hesitation. He had a wonderful way of finding humor in everything and could always bring a smile or a laugh to those around him. His kindness, laughter and generous spirit touched the lives of so many, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Above all, Philip was a devoted family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret "Peggy" Shiflett; his son, Matthew (Marilyn) Clawson; his brother, Carl Shiflett; his sister, Elisabeth (Rick) Gerken; his mother, Ann Epstein; and several nieces and nephews. His uncle Dave and aunt Myrna Moore were special people in his life whom he loved dearly. His legacy of mentorship, craftsmanship, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many people he taught throughout his lifetime. A celebration of life will be held October 3, 2026, at 1:00 pm at the Neelysville Church of Christ, 3486 E. St. Rt. 60, McConnelsville Ohio 43756. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Morgan County Humane Society, or a church or charity of your choice.  Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville is handling the arrangements.
