Obituary

Ralph R. Bookman, 76 of McConnelsville, died, Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville. He was born on March 19, 1935 to the late Herbert and Grace Hazlett Bookman. Ralph and his wife Kay owned and operated the Corral Restaurant in McConnelsville for 15 years from 1985 to 2000. He also was a heavy equipment operator for Roland Getz Company, Shelley and Sands and retired from Central Ohio Coal Company after 27 years. He was a United States Marine and belonged to the United Mine Workers, Valley Lodge F&AM in Malta, the Scottish Rite, Shriners International, Lakeside Riding Club and the American Quarter Horse Association. He is survived by his wife Kay Ferguson Bookman of the home, two daughters, Becki Ayres of Katy Tx., and Tami Hagans of Alvin Tx., one step-daughter, Denise Wallace of McConnelsville, one step-son Doug ( Angie) Hughes of McConnelsville, one brother, Kenny Bookman of Larue, Ohio, two sisters, Helen McConachie of Bellville, and Marilyn Matthews of San Antonio Tx., 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Linda Bookman and Maireum Bates. Services will be held on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville with Evang. Sam Bartrug officiating, with burial following at the McConnelsville Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. with Masonic services at 8P.M.
