Richard "Dick" A. Melvin, 56 of McConnelsville, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 7:48 P.M. at the Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born on April 12, 1954 in Columbus to Grover W. and Betty A. Litterest Melvin of Columbus and was a operator for Shelly and Sands of Zanesville, specializing in heavy highway work and bridges. He was a member of the Eagles Post #2187 in McConnelsville. He is survived by his parents, wife, Vicky Mendenhall Melvin of the Home, two sons, Chris (Michelle) Thompson of Reno, Texas, and Grover (Adessa) Melvin of Chesterhill, two daughters, Michaela Melvin of Columbus, and Athelia (the late Tracy) McDaniel of Malta, one brother, Grover C. (Denise) Melvin of Columbus, one sister, Missy (Steve) Herrel of Columbus, five grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is preceded in death by one granddaughter. Friends may call on the family on Friday, June 4, 2010 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Matheney Funeral Home in McConnelsville. A caring cremation will follow the visitation at Dick's request.
