IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Chris"
Christie
May 5, 1947 – January 24, 2025
Robert James Christie, known to all as Chris, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025, in Worthington, OH. He was born in Zanesville, OH, on May 5, 1947, to Robert S. and Sara Jane Christie. Chris married Marcia Emens on May 28, 1978, and together they had three sons: John (Kristie), Andrew (Michaela Miller), and Michael. He is also survived by his grandchildren Emmaline, Beckett, and Katherine, as well as his sister, Mary (John) McIntyre. Chris was predeceased by his parents, his brother John Christie, and his sister-in-law Linda Prater Christie. Chris was a proud member of the M&M High School Class of 1965. He went on to graduate from the University of Michigan and the Duke University School of Law. After completing law school, he returned to McConnelsville to join his father in private practice, where he worked until his retirement in 2021. Chris served as board chairman and legal counsel during his tenure as a director at Citizens National Bank. He was an active member of the local Jaycees and Kiwanis clubs, served on the board of the Kate Love Simpson Library, and was elected to a term on the Morgan Local School Board. He was a member of the McConnelsville Trinity United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the Zanesville Country Club. Chris was an avid sports fan who cheered for the Morgan Raiders—sometimes more enthusiastically than the officials preferred. He coached his sons and their friends in Little League basketball and baseball and was known in the area for organizing the Jaycees basketball tournament for many years. Chris eagerly awaited March Madness each year and loved traveling across the country to attend games with friends and family. Chris loved his family, his community, and a good happy hour. In that spirit, friends are invited to gather at the Chatterbox Tavern in McConnelsville on Saturday, February 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Our family will be forever grateful for the wonderful care he received at Cotter House in Worthington. In lieu of Flowers, if anyone is so inclined, we request donations be made in Chris' memory to the Employee Appreciation Fund care of the Kenney Foundation, 800 Proprietors Rd, Worthington, OH 43085.
