Obituary

Robert "Bob" Grove

March 29, 1949 – May 1, 2024

Robert "Bob" Grove, 75, of Stockport, Ohio, passed away on May 1, 2024, at his home and surrounded by his loving family. He was 75. Bob was born in Springfield, Illinois, in 1949 to the late Jack and Peg Grove. Raised in Illinois, Bob eventually moved to Minnesota and then to Evansville, Indiana, where he met his future wife, Amy Lindeberg. Following high school Bob went to Iowa State University, but soon transferred to Purdue University where he reunited with Amy and graduated with a degree in political science. He and Amy were married in 1969 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the home of his wife's parents, Kermit and Betty Lindeberg. Bob, Amy and their first daughter, Emily, moved to Morgan County in 1972 and immediately made it their home. They farmed their land and Bob worked at Landmark Feed Mill in Stockport until 1979 when Bob and his family bought the mill and renamed it the Stockport Milling Co. In addition to regular feed mill operations, Bob worked to make a lasting impact on Stockport by attempting to introduce hydroelectric power back to the community. That pioneering spirit served as inspiration years later when his research and willingness to share was integral to the hydroelectric system currently in use at the Stockport Mill Inn. Bob gave back to the community through elected service including a stint as a Trustee for Windsor Township and two-terms as Morgan County Commissioner. Bob sold the mill in 1997 and went on to a second career in water treatment where he served as Village Administrator for both Chesterhill and Stockport. But it was his welcoming attitude and "never-met-a-stranger" personality that will be most missed. Bob greeted everyone who crossed his path with a wave and never turned anyone away from his regular spot at his garage sanctuary. His welcoming face each Halloween as he popped popcorn was a highlight to trick-or-treaters young and old. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Amy, his son, Jake (Stella), his daughter, Jody (Adam) Shriver, grandchildren Abby, William, Jackson and Scarlett, brother-in-law John (Rose) Lindeberg, sister-in-law Judy (Mark) Larson, and sisters Anne (Richard Wilson) Grove and Jenni Grove. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Emily, father, Jack Grove, mother, C. Peggy Grove, father-in-law, Kermit Lindeberg, and mother-in-law, Elizabeth Lindeberg.  A celebration of life drop-in event will be held at the Stockport Mill Inn on Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 3-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Shrivers Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 3506, Zanesville, OH 43787 or online at shrivershospicefoundation.com.  To send a note of condolence to the family go to www.matheneyfh.com.
