Robert "Steve" Meyer (The Unofficial Mayor of Roxbury) passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, after a brief illness, with his family by his side. He was born, August 11, 1952, in Lima, OH, to the late Leon "Skip" Meyer and Betty J. (Fancher) Meyer Dohse. Steve was a 1970 graduate of Columbus Grove High School. He retired from the United States Navy in 1992, after a 20-year hitch. He then drove the hills of southern Ohio and finally finding his retirement home on the banks of the Muskingum River. He then worked for Unibuilt Homes in Dayton, until retiring permanently. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion. He loved hunting, fishing and the vast outdoors. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was a constant helping hand and wonderful neighbor. He looked forward to sharing his peaceful river home with anyone who wanted some R and R. Steve is survived by his mother, Betty Dohse, of Van Wert; stepmother, Barbara Meyer of Lima; two brothers, Mike Meyer of Van Wert and Gordon (Jacqueline) Meyer of Vaughnsville; three nephews, Haedon (Beth Branstiter) Meyer of Columbus, Brandon Meyer of Delphos, and Andy (Christine) Meyer of Findlay; two nieces, Kari (Derek) Stober of Wellington CO and Christa (Brian) Meader of Howell, MI; six great-nieces and nephews, Evelyn and Audrey Meyer, Tristan and Charlie Stober, Brock Meader, Harper Meyer; step-brothers and sisters, Sheri (Rick) Latimer, Beth (Randy) Swob, Danny Dohse, Kathy Dohse, Terri Dohse, Tim (Angie) Jacobs, and Cheryl (Larry) Bowers; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, step-nieces, nephews, and step-great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Meyer; stepfather, Karl (Mac) Dohse; step-brothers and sister, Rick Jacobs, Steve Jacobs and Linda Meeker. The family will hold a "Celebration of Life" at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post No. 24 and/or the Outdoor Extravaganza.
