Roger Stanley Newsom, 67, of 1850 St. Rt. 83, North Beverly, passed away Monday July 11, 2011 at 11:50 p.m. at the Riverside Country Care Center in McConnelsville.

He was born July 21, 1943 in Malta ot the late Stanley V. Newsom and Geraldine Newton Newsom. Roger was a retired elementary school teacher having taught for 28 years. He taught at Zanesville City Schools Lincoln and McIntire Elementary, Fort Frye Local Schools, Lowell Elementary, and Center Elementary School. He also was a devoted beekeeper and enjoyed spending time with his family. Roger was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians fan and was an active member of The Smith Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Croy Newsom; two sons, Ron (Lorie) Newsom of Beverly and Rick (Tammy) Newsom of Cincinnati; a special nephew, Kevin (Anita) Newsom of Hocking Hills; a sister, Jeannine Greuey of McConnelsville; eight grandchildren, Michael (Amy) French, Erin, Nicole, Carissa,Noah, Shelby, Mattie, and Andy Newsom.

In addition to his parents he was preceeded in death by a brother, Keith Newsom.

Calling hours will be Thursday July 14,2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. A memorial service will be held Friday July 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Walter Jones officiating. At Roger's request a caring cremation will take place.
