Sara Jane Kennard Christie died on March 23, 2009 at Good Samaritan Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke on Tuesday, March 17 at her home in McConnelsville, Ohio. She was married on October 5, 1941 to Attorney Robert Samuel Christie of McConnelsville who died March 31, 1992. She is survived by three children, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. 1. Attorney Robert James (Chris) Christie and his wife Marcia Emens Christie of McConnelsville, and their three children John Kennard Christie of Gahanna, Andrew Emens Christie of San Diego, CA, and Michael Taylor Christie of Columbus. 2. John Steven Christie and his wife Linda Prater Christie of Upper Arlington; their son Robert Morgan Christie, his wife Erica Christie, and their daughter Carsen Jane Christie of Huntersville, NC; their daughter Lindsey Taylor Christie Burt, her husband Tyler Burt, and their daughter Hazel Jo Burt of Upper Arlington; and their daughter Sara Jo Christie of Upper Arlington. 3. Mary Christie McIntyre, her husband John F. McIntyre, and their children Christie Douglas McIntyre and Gillian Scott McIntyre of Vienna, VA. Jane Christie was born June 8, 1918 to Harry R. Kennard and Vivian Humes Kennard. She was primarily raised in Malta, Ohio, but spent part of her youth in Tulsa (OK), Aspen (CO), and other places in Colorado. She was the valedictorian of the 1935 graduating class of Malta-McConnelsville High School and subsequently attended Bliss Business College and Ohio State University. She devoted her life to the raising of her children and participating as a volunteer of community events. She was an advocate for education and for Morgan Local School District. She was a fixture at athletic and other community events. She supported not only her own children and grandchildren but also their friends and other students in the community. She was a member and former trustee of the Trinity United Methodist Church of McConnelsville. She was a member and trustee of the Morgan County Historical Society. She was a charter member of the Study Club, a woman's club established during World War II and of which she remained a member until her death. She was an avid reader, a gentle woman, and a highly respected member of her community. She was active in athletics both as a child and as an adult and was an accomplished tennis player and golfer. She worked in various jobs while her husband was oversees during World War II. Calling hours will be held at Matheney Funeral Home at 161 N. Kennebec Avenue in McConnelsville on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow in McConnelsville Cemetery.;
