Shirley M. Smith, 66, of Belpre, died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at her residence, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 30, 1946 in Wheelersburg, Ohio to the late Norman and Marie McLure Cordel. She retired from the Worthington Nursing Center in Parkersburg where she worked as a nursing assistant and was a strong member of the Davis Memorial Wesleyan Church in Parkersburg. She is survived by one son, Sam (Mary) Smith of Vienna, one daughter, Sara (Robert) Smith-Breesawitz of Belpre, two brothers, Richard Cordel of Columbus and Ralph Cordel of Portsmouth, three sisters, Katie Wormeldorf of Hebron, Dorothy Stevens of Bucyrus, and her twin Carolyn Morton of Columbus, one granddaughter, Emily Smith whom she raised, 4 step-grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Mitchell (Lorraine) Smith, and one sister-in-law, Ellen Tate. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Guy (Sonny) Smith, one brother, and three sisters. Services will be held on Friday, June 29, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bethel Wesleyan Church near Bartlett with Pastor Rick Bourne officiating. Burial will follow at the Mt. Hermon Cemetery near Amesville. Friends may call on the family on Thursday, June 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Stone-Matheney Funeral Home in Chesterhill and one hour prior to the services at the church on the day of the funeral.
