Susan M. Sweeney, 94, of Malta, died at 6:40 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnelsville. She was born September 26, 1916, in Calcutta, India, a daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel Earthy Smith. She worked in Civil Service in England. She attended St. James Catholic Church in McConnelsville. She is survived by two daughters, Althea Alberts of Long Island, NY, and Gloria Meranda of Malta; and three grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter Sweeney; one brother, Tommy Smith; and two sisters, Dulcie Brain and Devina Smith; and one grandson, Carl Manwaring. Her body is being cremated, and her ashes will be returned to England.
